solid wood flooring

I want to install random width, solid cherry flooring in my new kitchen. I had put a new addition (11'x17') onto the old kitchen. There is a meandering difference between the two floors of no more than 3/16". I was thinking of using 30 lb. felt built up in multiple layers from the far end of the room (11' away) to recover this difference in the floors. I heard that floor leveler may deteriorate over time. Any ideas? Thaks!

Self-leveling compound over wood

Go to www.ardex.com and take a look at their self-leveling compound. A quality self-leveling compound should not deteriorate over time.
