Refinishing Hardwood 'Bruce' flooring

I have just completed drum sanding and finishing sanding my floors. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? The drum sander I used was on older model and had a hard rubber drum. The sand paper would only last a short time. The floors looked good at this point. Once I started to finish sand I noticed a lot of white streaks. After many hours of sanding they're still there and the floor has a cloud appearance to it. What do I have to do to get these white marks? Will they go away once I apply the clear polyurethane? Can I "over sand" the floors? In most of the places it's as smooth as a baby's butt.

Thanks for the help.
