Install laminate floor in kitchen before cabinets are installed?

Is it ok to install before cabinets? Will the weight of cabinets & appliances hinder the expansion & contraction process?

Installing laminate under cabinets

Check with the manufacturer of your particular laminate product. Every manufacturer tends to have its own specific installation requirements in order to maintain product warranties.

"3. Can I install Pergo under cabinets?
We recommend that cabinets be installed before installing Pergo. Run the Pergo up to the kick plate, leaving an expansion space and cover the space with a Pergo quarter round or end molding. However, cabinets may be installed after the floor is in place IF they are NOT fixed or attached to the Pergo floor. Cabinets and islands can be anchored to the subfloor. Should any anchoring bolts or screws be placed through Pergo, the drilled holes must be larger than the diameter of the bolts to allow for the required floating floor expansion space." http://www.pergo.com/Pergo/US/US_Ins...,USA,00.html#3 (Retrieved 05/19/02)

"Note: Any nails or screws that are used to secure any object to the flooring or subfloor will cause a stopping point for expansion and the floor will no longer be free floating. Permanent cabinets should not be placed on top of a floating floor." http://www.columbiaflooring.com/prod...llamplank.html (Retrieved 05/19/02)
