Question Removing Paint from Hardwood floor?

I recently purchased a home that was built in 1908 (Des Moines, IA - probably an old farm house). My wife and I began pulling carpet in the living room and dining room because we didn't like it. Underneath we found some old plank flooring that appears to be in good condition (with exception of a few warped boards near a floor register). We are thinking that refinishing might be an option, BUT about half of the floor has been painted.

(I guess now we get to my question)
How do I go about removing the paint from the floor? Do I buy some of the stipping solvents I've seen or is there a special technique for hardwood floors? I'm new to "do it yourself" work and could use any and all help.

Thanks!

Removing paint from hardwood floors

Most folks use a stripper to remove the paint before resanding. Go to http://www.finishingwoodfloors.com for helpful finishing info, including the National Oak Flooring Manufacturer's Guide.
