Hi all, My wife and I purchased a home last summer and I recently took off some wood trim in my garage (for a task unrelated to this post) and discovered what is pictured below. I can provide a higher-resolution picture if necessary. BTW, this picture was taken at near the ceiling of my garage about 8 feet off the ground. I assume this is evidence of termites, correct? If not, stop reading and let me know what it is! The previous home owner never stated anything about termite damage, so I'm obviously a bit surprised and concerned about this discovery. Unfortunately, there's a staircase against much of this wall so I'll be unable to remove the rest of the paneling to investigate further without some major work. I have noticed sounds of something falling behind the wall whenever I brushed up against it too hard or bang on it with a hammer...I'm guessing that's more of these dirt trails crumbling and falling behind the wall. So my main question is this: since opening up the rest of the wall is pretty much impossible without major demolition is there a way to tell whether there is an "active" termite colony behind this wall or whether these dirt trails are old remnants from some termite issue that was taken care of long ago?
