How about a little more information. Is the house new to you? How old is the house? How long have the marks been there? Are they growing or spreading? Have you tried removing or cleaning the marks?

If you tap the wall or push the blunt end of a pen or pencil into the wall does it seem hollow? The wall cavity will be empty or full of insulation but the sheetrock should feel solid. Does it seem like something has burrowed tunnels in the wall board?

Roger. House was made in 1970. House is 5 years old to me. It wasn't there 3 weeks ago, we noticed it today. When you clean the mark, some of that stuff goes away and you are left with a hole in the wall. The hole spot is kind of squishy, I was able to put a butter knife through one of the area's with multiple holes.

May be time to cut a section of sheetrock out to investigate behind it all. It won't hurt, as you will have to repair a larger area once you find out what it is that is causing the problem.

Chandlers correct. Start cutting out wallboard. I suspect you have a moisture problem. If it's mold then it could be a long standing problem. Did you have any recent work done on the home? new roof maybe? Or are you due for a new roof. Roof leaks can travel many feet away from source.

Doesn’t look insect or rodent related. Is this happening above or below grade? I agree with making an opening; have to see whats behind.
