Doing backyard raking and found these

I'm guessing termites.
DIY remedy?

As long as they aren't in the house it's not a problem.

Yes, termites (workers). Actually, the guy with the big head is a soldier termite. They fight off raiding ant colonies, but the ants win anyway. The soldiers can't even feed themselves because of their mandibles, so the workers feed them through "trophalaxis".

The good question remains: how close to the house? If treatment is decided upon, I suggest any termiticide with the active ingredient: fipronil. Some examples of brand names would be: Termidor, Taurus SC, Fuse and some newer ones that I'm not remembering right now. Fipronil can be used as a spot treatment as it is non-repellent so the termites (and ants) don't even know it's there and continue to work and feed in the treated zone.
