Looks like it. Look closely in the "frass". Oftentimes, there are ant body parts, which would confirm carpenter ants. Looks like you're in Massachusetts, so drywood termites are definitely out. Maybe you guys have subterranean termites, but this isn't their evidence.

I hit both areas with some powder insecticide I successfully used on a wasp nest behind shingles so fingers-crossed.....

This looks like an infestation. Going forward, I suggest not using insecticide in this type of situation as you're likely to kill only those insects that come in contact. I believe you're better served by using bait that could be taken back to the nest for a far better impact.

Termite and Wood Boring Insects
How can I get rid of active termites? Have a crawlspace with foam insulation.

So, we just bought this house a year ago. When we had the inspection when we bought the house, we were told there was some termite activity by the furnace. (We live in the south where our furnaces are outside... come from the north, so still find it odd.) I kind of had it in the back of my mind, I need to have another termite inspection done since it's been a year since we moved in. I had orkin come out. Guy says we have a lot of termite activity. He says whoever told me it was just contained to the furnace area was way wrong. So, backstory. When my wife and I first met, our first house we rented. We were in a rent to own lease with a house our parents and aunts and uncles owned (was our grandparents house.). We knew that house had termites, but my parents had termite service on it where they were spraying it a few times a year. Well, my wife and I decided after a year or so, we wanted out of the lease so we bought a different house. After we moved out, they had someone else check the termites. They said whoever was treating it before wasn't doing it right. There was way more damage than we thought. He said a little extra weight on the refrigerator and it would probably have fallen through the floor to the basement. My parents and aunts and uncles ended up having to pay to gut that house down to the subfloor and have parts of the flooring replaced. It turned into a huge project of a complete inside remodel of the house. So, that makes me nervous about this house. I kind of already told orkin, no matter how well I think they're doing, in a year or two, I will call someone else out to inspect. Another company will always find something the other company is doing wrong to prove they're not as good as the new company. But, our crawlspace is really nice compared to our last house. Our last house was just dirt with no insulation. This house, it's completely encapsulated with tarp flooring and insulation. It looks like a finished crawlspace. But, because it's insulated, termites are in it. I said to orkin, why don't I just get the insulation out? He says it's foam insulation. He says, if I were to try to get it out, he thinks we'd get more wood off than insulation. So, his suggestion was to leave it as-is. They offered a plan. It was a one time spray for $2100. But, they said, because of the insulation, they will not guarantee anything. I"m uploading a screenshot of pictures they took. What do you all recommend?
