wiring lennox 81m26 help needed

Unhappy wiring lennox 81m26 help needed

i am replacing honeywell with lennox 81m26. there are two wires from the wall to the current t-stat, the black wire, goes to R and white wire goest to W.

The new t-stat has

C - Common 24 VAC
R - System transformer
Y1 - 1st stage cooling
W1 - 1st stage heating
W2 - not used
Y2 - not used

says the black wire goes to R and white wire goes to W1 but my t-stat LCD doesn't come up. When I wire black to C and white to R, or flip them the LCD does come up but the heat doesn't kicks in when temperature fall below the set point. please help!!!

You are going to need more wires to run this t-stat, this stat must have 3 wires to run.

You are going to need a wire on W1, R, and C.

What was wrong with the old stat?

old t-stat is not programmable

there are two wires off my wall, how do i add more wires? sounds like i need a different kind of t-stat. any suggestions? thanks

You'll need a stat that runs on batteries and doesn't need to be hardwired.

Honeywell makes a few good ones, but $ are up there.
