Trouble Selecting New Thermostat
I want a new thermostat that has a back light on it and daily settings capabilities. I have a 2 stage heat pump with a/c. It is a Ducane- HP10B30
I currently use a Simple Comfort 2200 Thermostat.
Here is the wiring at thermostat
c- blue
r- red
o- orange
W2- white
G- Green
Y1- Yellow
then there is a black and red wire hooked up to nothing.
Any suggestions on a low to medium priced new thermostat?

As for back light t-stat, did you want the back light on all time and act as a night light, or just when you do something on the screen?
What is your back up heat, gas or electric? (model # on that)

On your current t-stat, there's W2 and that's your back up heat if the heat pump falls behind, or trying to recover from temp set back.
Also, on your current t-stat is there a E terminal, or switch "Emerg. Heat"?
What's the model # on the indoor unit?

Yes but there is no wire connected

What is an indoor unit? You mean the fan? It is mounted below the house in the crawl space. Is it vital to know the model number? As far as I know there is no back up heat.

If you got w2 wired, there should be back up heat.
When the unit goes into defrost, does the air get cold? If it don't then it's turning on your back up heat.
A model # would be nice, and that way we can get this wires up the right way.
Where are you out of?

can you recommend a thermostat with this info?
I am in Richmond, VA
You asked, "When the unit goes into defrost, does the air get cold? If it don't then it's turning on your back up heat."
I don't know of a defrost feature or cycle. we just turn up or down the temp for a/c or heat

What brand is it? (Rheem, or Ducane..... ??)
Defrost is a cycle, you'll see frost on the coil outside, and when it goes into defrost, the fan outside shuts off, and it will run in "A/C" mode to defrost the coil (Steam comes off the coil outside) So when it's in that mode, it will blow cold air if you don't have aux heat.
At the air handler, did you see where the t-stat wire hooks up to?
