Prolux Thermostat

Prolux Thermostat
I have had a new furnace installed and want to upgrade my thermostat as well (it's an old sears thermostat that was in the house when we bought it). The furnace is a Trane XV95, TUH2CA100A9V4VAB - and we have an older AC unit I don't have a model number for at the moment. My initial impression is that Honeywell is the most widely used thermostat, however I am comparing cost and functionality and I am leaning towards the LuxPro PSPU721T. Here are the features that I am interested in:
The LuxPro has all of these and I don't see all, or most of them, in other thermostats.
So, my questions
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
- Two-stage heat, 1 stage cooling
- Minimum of 5+1+1 programmability
- Furnace reminder that counts actual usage - we have several months per year that we don't run the furnace or AC and I want a reminder based on usage.
- Touch screen - easy programming/setup
- Vacation hold - ideal is to set a date/time when I will be returning so that it will return to program at that time, but I can live with just a hold feature.
- Usage monitor that gives me run time for the furnace - ideal is to have this month and previous month hours.
- Ability to add an outdoor sensor - not needed for my furnace, but it would be nice to be displayed on the thermostat, just for reference.
- I would like to see the following displayed at all times: current temp, setpoint temp, outside temp, furnace/AC request (if On)
The LuxPro has all of these and I don't see all, or most of them, in other thermostats.
So, my questions
- Does anyone have experience with this thermostat - any issues?
- Is there another thermostat I should consider?
- I have a friend that has an older Trane, TUE100A948K2, and he currently has a non-programmable thermostat. He would like to upgrade and is willing to go with whatever I get - I know this would be a bit of an overkill for his single stage unit, but I think it would still work and it would be easier to setup the same stat twice rather than two different ones. It would also be ready if he put in a two stage unit later.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You can control the dhumid mode (slow down the blower) in A/C, wire up a humidifier to this, and fresh air/air exchanger.

Honestly, I think the screen on the Lux you are looking at looks like the 80's boxy letter looks.
H0neywel looks up to date.
Here is a demo of it.

Thanks for the feedback. I left a word out of one of the items on my list - it should be:
Furnace FILTER reminder that counts actual usage - we have several months per year that we don't run the furnace or AC and I want a reminder based on usage.
I think both the LuxPro and the Honeywell will do that.
The only thing the Honeywell doesn't have is a usage monitor to tell me how many hours the furnace ran last month, this month... That's not number one on my list, but is a nice-to-have feature. I had a thermostat on a house back in the 80's that gave me those kind of statistics. I don't remember the thermostat but it seems like that feature isn't available on very many thermostats, so it must not be something that people in general have asked for or used over the last 20 years.
And, I agree about the screen. I figured that was what made up part of the $50 price difference with the Honeywell. Having the ability to control a humidifier though is a plus for the future. I am not sure I see how to do that though in the literature. I was looking at the TH8320U1008, or the 8321. Is that something these can do, or is there an add-on needed?
I think I could swing the Honeywell, but my friend has a $100 limit, so maybe one of the FocusPro 6000 series might work for him.
I definitely don't want to get something that is going to give me problems in the future. Looks like Honeywell's warranty is better as well.

Now if you get it online, ask the online dealer about the warranty replacements. Cuz if you get the Pro series online, and you call honeywell direct, they won't talk to you.. The online dealer has to take care of you.
