Booster fan hook up

I installed an in line booster fan in my duct to bring more hot air into my "cold" room.

Got a relay, hooked it up in such a way that when I jump two low voltage wires on it the

relay closes and my fan works.

My question is how do I hook it up to my existing forced air system?

Can I use my digital low voltage thermostat?

My system is 4 wires one stage heat/cool.

I will appreciate any help.

Paule

If this is this connecting to a gas furnace, I recommend a current sensing relay.

If this is connecting to an air handler with electric heat, using a stat configured for electric heat, wire G and C to your relay.

Booster fan will not work. You can't push air that is not there. You would be better off fixing the ductwork to provide the cfm needed to heat and cool that room

Actually I'm using it allready for a month. I've connected it to a switch and when thermostat calls for heat I manually turn the switch on. My room warms up in no time now, there is a lot of hot air coming through the register with the help of my booster. But how can I make it work in fan auto mode?

It is a gas furnace. I was planing to use G terminal on my thermostat but since my furnace blower is being hooked up to the same G terminal my booster works only in fan on position and doesn't work in fan auto. Also this type of hook up activates furnace bypassing thermostat and system is working on its own.

I think I got it. This relay closes when senses current and can be used to activate my fan. Now is my other problem. My in-line fan is in the attic because it boosts up the air for bedroom on 2nd floor. My furnace is in the basement and to run wires from attic there... Forget about it. That's why I'm trying to see if I can use thermostat. Would this relay work of thermostat?

If you have a digital stat...

You can wire the coil of a 24 volt fan relay to W and C at your stat.
Wire a 10 minute adjustable Delay On Make in series with the W signal to this fan relay. Measure the time it takes for the blower to start when heat demand is givin at the stat, and set your 10 minute delay a little after this.

Interrupt the W circuit...

"When power is applied to the input, the time delays begins. After the time delay is complete, the load energizes and remains energized as long as power is applied."

Do you have any extra wires between the stat and the furnace?

Ok, I'm listening. What do you have in mind? As the matter of fact I've got time delay relay as you suggested, but didn't install it yet.

That'a a cooling unit. Is it?
So, I'll have to install time relay on break in series with white wire and provide common to the other leg of my fan relay low side setting time delay a bit after the main fan will kick in?

Yes, it is a cooling unit.
Yes we need Common and W to the new relay, and the new timer wires in series to the new relay's W signal.

One more question. My system has 3 zones with automatic dampers and separate stat for each zone. The changes that we are making to one zone shouldn't affect two others?

It will not affect the other zones.
What zone control board are you using?
Is it a EWC Ultrazone, Honeywell, or Carrier?
If you see Vg, V+, Rs+, and Rs- terminals at the stat that you want to wire to, this plan will not work.

I have Honeywell board and haven't seen those terminals there.
Few weeks ago I replaced thermostat on one of my zones with wireless FocusPRO Honeywell unit and had to use the spare wire to provide common to the module receiver and it works fine.
I'll be away for two weeks, but as soon as I'm back I'll do this project and will let you know the results.
You can't imagine how greatfull I am for all your help. Thanks a lot, Paul.

P.S. The thermostat that I'm using is Honeywell Vision Pro series and also doesn't have those terminals.

That is an excellent stat.
I'd connect C to the stat and furnace, and pick up W and C from the stat terminals.
