Honeywell thermostat removal

I have a round Honeywell thermostat used for both heating and air conditioning. It works fine. I have to remove it from the wall to remove the wallpaper behind it. How do I remove it from the wall please? I don't want to start unscrewing screws untill I know which screws to remove. Thanks, Henry

there are three screws holding it on. they should be the only screws holding the stat to the subbase. Then there are 2 screws that hold the sub base to the wall. It is very important that the stat is level when you reinstall it.

Honeywell thermostat removal

Do the three screws look like they are flat heads and are slightly below the subbase?

Thanks, Henry

Yes they are 3 slightly recessed flathead screws. Leave any torx screws you see alone.

It may be necessary to adjust the temperature setting to move the mercury bulb out of the way.
