Thermostat problems

Question does any body know this answer my thermostat room temp is 70f when I turn the stat on to 75f my furnace comes on then almost immediately turns off but if I set it to 85f or higher it stays on any answers please help

What make and model thermostat do you have? What is the make and model of furnace you have?

It's a dial Honeywell and possibly a trance furnace

Honey well t87n1000 and a trance furnace xl80 does that help

kind of...that is not a model number for the furnace. It is located inside the furnace. Beyond that, if you set it only 5 degrees higher than the room temp and it fails to stay running what do you see for a flash code viewable through the window in the blower door of the furnace? Fast flash, slow flash, or flash code?
