VisionPro Th8320 wiring Question

Trying to replace a weathertron therm. with a VisionPro TH8320. The new stat doesn't seperate Aux.Heat and Em.Heat. I have a Heat Pump with Gas backup.
How can i run the heat pump without firing the gas also?

Do you currently have a add on heat pump kit (dual fuel kit) installed?

Yes, Its and older style GE. 1 plus one system. I have my doubts that this stat will work its a 8320u1008 the newer style has put the em. heat terminal with the aux. heat

It will work. You should remove the plus one kit and use the stat as the fossil fuel kit. This requires the use of an outdoor sensor.

I agree with Kevin, retire that kit, and use then the IAQ will do it's job.

If I do that, then will W2 become my so called Em. Heat, and W my heat pump that is tied in with the outdoor senser so I can set the lockout at set temp. and any time it goes below that set temp the Em. Heat (Gas) will take over? And if I do that do you just put the reversing valve and the heat pump together under W? Here is the wiring diagram for termination.

Heat Pump--- Conventional--- Heat Pump

Y2---------------Y2------Rc-----------Rc
L------------- not used --R-----------R
Aux/Em-------W2-------W-----------O/B
--------------------------- Y------------Y
S1--------------S1--------G-----------G
S2--------------S2--------C-----------C

C----------------C or B-------C
L------------- not used -----not used
Aux and E---------W----------X2

You will have to set the thermostat up for your system. I will post these settings later.

O.K. Looks good to a point, then i don't understand the circuit? The outdoor sensor controls the heat pump for the heating call until it reachs its lockout temp then the gas takes over. But what keeps the gas from firing also? they are both (the HP{x2} & Gas{w}) terminated under Aux/E. When the stat calls for heat it will energize R to O/B-W(they are the same terminal.) the Reversing Valveis energized! What controls the compressor for the HP? Doesn't the outdoor sensor control Aux/E? Again that is both the HP & gas. Sorry for my ignorance what Im I missing?

You are reading the terminals wrong. There are 2 designations. Conventional and HP. O/B will only be energized with a call for cooling. I do this everyday for a living believe me it will work. Depending on how the thermostat is programmed it uses terminals in different ways. It is a very sophisticated thermostat.

Fair enough! I'll wire up the stat as you show. Do I understand correctly that X2 from the HP and the W from the Furnace terminate under Aux/Em. terminal on the stat?

Kinda. Wire from x2 goes to w on furnace. W on furnace goes to aux and E on thermostat. This is what I posted for connections.

O.K. so they term. together at the furnace? I have 4 terminals at the furnace R=24v,
B= com., G=Fan relay, W=Gas valve
how does X2 control only the gas valve and aux/E.only the HP or does aux/E control something else and not the HP?
Maybe thats where my confusion is I don't fully understand what controls the HP side. Is it a combonation of Y and O/B?
Anyway I REALLY appericate your help and time helping me though this problem!!
THANK YOU!!

aux/E does NOT control the HP.

R = 24V hot
C = 24V common
Aux/E and X2 = back up heat
Y = compressor
O/B = reversing valve
G = fan

Enter installer setup (page 15)

Important settings

170 = 7
180 = 0
190 = 0
200 = 1
210 = 0
220 = 3
250 = 3
270 = 3
340 = 2
350 = the outdoor temp you want the system to switch from HP to aux heat only (usually 35 or higher)
360 = 50

There are many other settings, but you can read the manual to determine what they should be set at.
