Comfort Stat thermostat, on outside wall in mobile home.

Last year we had a new heat pump put in, and we have oil drum as back up heat. we are in an older mobile home, which we have been remodeling. we moved the thermostat from an interior wall in the living room, to an outside wall near the furnace. The thermostat reads very cold, and makes the heat run nonstop.
The thing is, we knocked down the interior wall we had to expand the living room, so almost all the walls are now exterior walls, except the bathroom and around washer dryer. Our layout just doesn't give us another option. Can we build out the wall a little behind the thermostat or is there something we can use to help?? need advice please.

Get a wireless thermostat and set it on a table in the interior of the home.
