Heat drops to 17 degrees C (63F) in the middle of the night!

For the last month, the heat has started dropping to 16 or 17 degrees Celsius (62 - 63 F) in the middle of the night, the furnace fan doesn't come on. The heat returns to 22 C around 9 or 10 am. I have a Honeywell Magicstat thermostat, and I have never entered a program. (I don't know how) My son put new batteries in the thermostat when it got so cold in the middle of the night that he had to turn the fan from "automatic" to "on". We thought the problem had been solved, until the heat dropped to 16 again last night. The thermostat, right now, says "HLD 22" and so far it is holding at 22 degrees Celcius.

I'm not sure how old the thermostat is, at least ten. Is a new thermostat put in when a new furnace is?

maybe the furnace?

What kind of heat are you using?
maybe the furnace filter needs changing.

Welcome to the forums.

Usually when a furnace is replaced the thermostat gets replaced too.

Your thermostat is now in HOLD mode. The means it will stay at 22c until the temperature is manually changed.

Some times stats are changed out with a new furnace, and other times no..

If you have it on "Hold" now, it won't go down to set point. I run our program on our stat and we have it go down that low at night, and days time when we are not home.. I don't think it's that cold, and saving on gas as well.
