central a/c & heat t'stat question (aquathermal)

Just before an ice storm in Dec., humidity was high (Ark. has crazy weather), and I thought I'd just turn the a/c on for a minute. When I turned the t'stat off, it kept running, and had to turn off the breaker and use my gas stove for heat in the storm. I continued to use the stove thru winter, and now I need my a/c. Bought a new t'stat (Honeywell), but when I took the cover off my existing t'stat, a connecting wire (RH to RC) kind of fell off without being touched, so I thought that was my problem. I put it back, and it worked fine. After a couple of days, I woke up, and it was 67 degrees, and hadn't stopped running even though t'stat was on 72. I turned off the breaker again. A/C works if I turn on the t'stat before turning the breaker on. Any ideas? The t'stat has a white, green, yellow, RC wire, and connecting wire from RH to RC.

Not my specialty but I believe your aquathermal unit is a heatpump.
Can you give us a more info on your system.... like make and model number.
