I and most professionals that I know, recommend Honeywell.

What features are you looking for?

The Honeywell RTH6350D would be a good choice for a dependable programmable thermostat that does not require a 6th wire for common to power the stat since it runs on batteries. They run about $60 at Home Depot.

The Honeywell RTH6450 would add the ability to automatically change from heat to cool wich can be a great feature in the spring and fall.

If you have an extra unused wire behind the thermostat, and you feel up to connecting the extra wire to 24 volt Common at the furnace, you might go a little higher up the Honeywell Tree to something that does not require batteries.

If you want to be able to control your thermostat from your cell or be able to see from work if your system is not cooling you might consider a WiFi stat like the RTH6580WF.

WiFi stats usually require a common wire.
