new thermostat, a/c works but not heat

So I just purchased and installed a honeywell thermostat to replace an older thermostat. the wiring for the thermostat is as follows: red, blue, white, and green. Originally I had hooked them up according to color and the a/c wouldn't work so a friend told me that the blue wire is probably the yellow wire, which I swapped over to the Y slot and the a/c works perfectly but now the heater doesn't work at all. I know it isn't the heater as it's only a year old and was professionally installed. I'm thinking it may be either the wiring to the thermostat or a faulty thermostat. Thanks for any help that may be provided.

Welcome to the forums!! To better assist, please post the model number of your Honeywell thermostat.
Did you set up the thermostat to operate your system? For some thermostats there is an installers guide that helps configure it properly. Also, do you have a jumper between R and RC?

Based on your description:

G – Blower (green wire)
R – 24 VAC / Rc and R or Rh (red wire)
Y – Compressor / air conditioner (blue wire)
W – Heat (white wire)
