Honeywell RTH9580 Wiring

I have a hot water boiler and baseboard heating system. No heat pump or air conditioning. i installed a Honeywell 9580 Wi Fi Thermostat. The old thermostat is only two wire and I have no way to lead a wire. So I installed a 24v transformer in a inconspicuous place close to the thermostat and connected the R and C wires from the transformer to the R and C terminals in the thermostat. The two wires for the thermostat at red and white. I have tried various combinations connecting these two wires to the terminals in the thermostat but cannot find the correct combination. When I touch the two wires together the furnace ignites. The thermostat runs perfectly with the transformer leads connected. I have full capabilities of adjusting from my I phone and from the front of the thermostat. My question is which two terminals do I need to connect the thermostat wires in order to make the furnace ignite when the thermostat calls for heat?
Thanks.

The red wire connects to R and white wire to W.
The external transformer connects to Rc and C.

Remove the jumper between R and Rc, if one is installed.

The transformer connects to Rc and C.

The heating system connects to R and W/OB. Remove R jumper inside thermostat.

Did you go thru programming and setup the type of heating system you have ?
