American Standard AUD2B080A9V3VB furnace setup
good morning, I'm New to the side
I'm trying to find out how to correctly wire American Standard Furnace 2 stage heating with variable speed including setting up dip switch
Recently I found out that my thermostat is missing common wire and my system is running on 4 wires
Below is my control panel imageCan anyone tell me how to wire it correctly and how many wires should be there

Hi, how many conductors do you have at your Tstat?
Can you post a wiring Dia. has the system ever worked?

I have one conductor and the system is working
All I want to do is re-wire it from 4 to more wires to make sure it is working with two stage heating and variable speed AC also providing common wire to my thermostat
I'm using Nest generation 3
Also I'm trying to find out if my S7,S3 and S4 dip switches are setup correctly

How many wires are at the thermostat location?and how many are at the furnace? Do you have any documentation for that furnace?

My current wiring is 4 wires
Y yellow
W white
R red
G green
In my opinion it should be more wires since it is 2 stage furnace with variable speed
Y yellow
W white
W2 orange
R red
G green
C common Blue
and I'm not sure if YOL should be wired to Y2 on thermostat
the question number 2 is if I change wiring configuration,do I have to change dip switch settings too

The S7 switches are set for a single stage thermostat with the furnace going to 2nd stage on its own after 20 minutes. If you add a wire for W2 you need to update the switches. See page 4 of https://climate.emerson.com/document...us-1645268.pdf
It looks like you may have a single stage a/c as only a red and white hooked to C and Y. So don't hook up YLO or Y2.

Thank you Astuff
thats a very good stuff, do you know how to find out if my ac is single stage ?
also that’s variable speed motor do I need to somehow wire that? Or it doesn’t have anything with wiring

Welcome to the forums.
We can see a 4 wire cable for the thermostat....... a two wire cable for the condenser....... and a two wire cable for the humidifier. Your 4 wires are blue, red, green and white. (no yellow)
If you intend to add a wifi stat then you should run a new cable. I'd run a 7-8 conductor cable.
Your thermostat can control two stages of heat but not the variable speed blower.

can you tell me what controls variable speed or how to control it
so far looks like I need only 6 wires and you righ there is no yellow wire for Y
Y is blue now
W1 is white
R is red
G is green
what I’m trying to do is add common wire C for nest thermostat and w2 wire since the furnace is 2 stage but I still don’t know what is exectly variable speed and do I need to wire YLO and also one wire should have jumper don’t really understand that

Hi, it looks like 6 conductors would be right, also seems that YLO is low speed cooling if you have a 2 speed condenser, does the blower operate at variable speed now? Who setup the dip switches?

Hi geochurchi
all was set up by hvac installer I just think he didn’t do good job
I’m not sure how to deferment if my furnace is working in variable speed it appears that is working in 2 stages system when is on heating

Hi, I would leave all the dip switches as set and concentrate on the wiring to the new Tstat,

For the most part variable speed is marketing hype for these types of systems. There's nothing you can do to make it more variable that it is now other than controlling the stages via the W1 and W2 connected to the thermostat.
What is the model of your outside unit? From that we can tell if it is a 2 stage and would benefit from using the YLO terminal of the furnace - would require more wires run to the outside.

Hi, if you have only 2 wires going out to the condenser that pretty much says it’s a 1 stage unit.

i put online manuals for my unit should I do page 19 but I’m not 100% sure and should I do jumper from BK to R like it said in manuals
last question what can happened if I do bad wiring to the thermostat and do dip switch might effect the furnace performance ?

Hi, page 19 is correct, leave BK -R jumper in place unless you have a Humidifier, dip switches could effect performance, that’s why I said leave as they are for now and worry about the Tstat.

Hi Geochurchi
I did rewired the furnace to 6 wires since there is no 2 stage cooling
Y yellow
W white
W2 brown
R red
G Green
C blue
Now I need to find out how to delay 2nd stage heating with dip switch "S7" and how to optimaze motor performance with dip switches " S3 & S4 "
below is my new wiring and thermostat configuration

S3 is cooling and should have been set by the installer.
S4 is heating and should have been set by the installer too.
They are not randomly set. They are set based on measured system static pressure.

Still have to set it up somehow
the installler who put it in really didn’t know what he was doing he draw two diagrams on the furnace panel and used completely different one to set up S3 and S4
i don’t understent the values and how it works after re-wiring I change switches do defold setting as follow
SW4 1 off
SW4 2 on
SW4 3 on
SW4 4 on
SW3 1 on

Thermostat and Furnace wiring
Hi I have a American Standard Furnace AUD2B080A9V3VB with American Standard A/C compressor 4A7A4024L
That's 2 stage heating with variable speed and single stage cooling
I changed from 4 wire to 6 wire setting due to thermostat common wire requirement
My previous wiring was
Y to Y1
W1 to W1
R to Rh
G to G
the purpose for re-wiring was to add common wire for my Nest thermostat but also since it is 2 stage furnace I add extra wire for thermostat to control heating
My current wiring is
Furnace - Thermostat
Y to Y1
W1 to W1
W2 to W2
G to G
C to C common require be Nest
R to Rh
Dip switch S7 was simple All goes off to let the thermostat to control both heating stages and it works grate.
But can anyone help me with Dip Switch S3 And S4 so far I'm assuming that they should be set as follow Starting from S4-1 to S3-4
Off
On
Off
On
On
On
Off
Off
Also there should be jumper between Y and O on the board do I need to connect O on the board to O on thermostat and do I need to connect YLO on the board with Y1 on thermostat and switch Y on the board to Y2 on thermostat

One thread per topic is allowed.
We could only give you guesses. You either need to experiment or get the right equipment to set it up properly.
S3 is cooling and should have been set by the installer.
S4 is heating and should have been set by the installer too.
They are not randomly set. They are set based on measured system static pressure.

Thank you Pjmax
I got the heating it can be set in 3 different formulas for low medium and high in my case is S3-1 off S3-2 on S3-3 Off S3-4 on that's for low setting and since I transfer W2 to thermostat it works great
But the S4 is little more difficult I got the idea S4-1 on S4-2 on S4-3 off S4-4 off but I think I'm missing jumper from Y to O on the board to regulate variable speed also I'm not 100% sure if O should not be connected to thermostat O
By the way what's O is for And do I need Jumper?

I'm predominantly a service technician. I don't wire these system from the start.
The O on the board gets connected to R for two stage cooling or for the Bk stage to work. It's covered in the notes on page 17. To the right of the schematic.
It does not get connected to the thermostat O. T'stat O is for the reversing valve.

Thanks Pjmax
I don’t have anything to do with hvac at all, just my installer quit on me so I have decided to finish his job
anyway you have helped me a lot thank you my heating furnace is working grate at least a lot better then when my installer wire it on 4 wires with his dip switches set up. Now I have to wait for spring and finish setting ap A/C speed to get advantage of variable speed the settings look simple my only issue is either Y to O or R to O jumper mostly looks like Y to O since my furnace is set as 2 stage by default and don’t need variable speed to control

Ok that is my final setting for 2 stage furnace with variable speed and single stage A/C
model AUD2B080A9V3VB and A/C 4A7A4024L
who every want to use it I only re-wire the low voltage panel to thermostat and adjust dip switch.
my current setting is: 6 wires
furnace - thermostat
Y to Y1 single stage cooling
W1 to W1 first stage heating
W2 to W2 second stage heating
G to G fan
R to Rh
C to C common to support thernostat
single jump on panel from R to O in order to support comfort-r
dip switch S7
“1, 2, 3, 4, set off”. full control of 2 stage heating operated by thermostat
SW4
1 off
2 off
3 on
4 on
SW3
1 off
2 on
3 off
4 on
I’m using nest 3rd generation thermostat and so far heating is working greate need to wait for warmer temps outside to test A/C
If anyone have better ideas please let me know✌️

Small update to DIP switch SW7
I put above that all 4 should to be set off to allowed thermostat to control the 2 stage heating, but after reviewing manuals I found out that SW7-3 And SW7-4 might be set different in order for fan delay, after heating cycle ends
So I decided to go with the longest both Switch 3 & 4 put to on position so the fan would run 180 second after if I keep both in off position as I said before fan goes off after 90 second

Hi everyone
I like to add that maybe someone know something, how good is Nest thermostat to support 2 stage heating?
or what's best thermostat to support 2 stage heating?
when my furnace was set with 1 wire to support both stages of heating the furnace switched to 2nd stage each time after 10 minutes run, now since I use 2 wires to support 2 stage of heating W & W2 on furnace to W1 and W2AUX on Nest, and DIP switch is set to let thermostat control heat stages the second stage only kicks in when temperature difference is above 2 degrees (nest waking up from Eco mode) without ever running stage 1 first

Good morning
I'm not a pro and I never used 2 stage heater with 2 stage thermostat. regular thermostat run with single degree different take about 8 - 10 minutes to finish first stage cycle only.
So far Thermostat used 2nd stage only twice when it awake from eco mode and depending on the temperature difference it takes a lot longer and only works in 2nd stage, apparently the nest know to start 2nd stage if temperature difference is more than 1 degree
I don't know if there is any setting on furnace DIP switch to regulate it

Ok I used the indoor motor air flow selection chart
And I did set up per above settings
S4-1 S4-2 both ON Comfort-R
S43 S4-4 both ON (LOW) Heat airflow 800/1100 CFM 1st stage 2nd stage
Now the S3 dip switch, I might need help with 1 & 2 they determined the tonnage of my outdoor unit and my unit is 2 ton but there is no description how to set DIP switch for that look at the picture below, my installer set it up for 2.5 ton and it stays as
S3-1 S3-2 OFF ON for 2.5 ton unit
S3-3 S3-4 OFF ON cool air flow set to low 350 CFM/TON
I add jumper From R to O to control Comfort-R
Sorry if the pictures are upside down don't know how to fix it

Hi Can anyone help me with that ? per operators manual it say That there should be jumper between R and BK and also jumper between either Y and O or R and O
How many Jumpers do I need? 1, 2 or 3 and between witch terminals?
