Thermostat controlling damper

I'm trying to use a thermostat to control a damper. The thermostat will not trigger the furnace at all just control the operation of the damper. The damper is a normal open and normal control with a com. All is 24vac. Im thinking i need a relay in there but have no experience with a relay or which one to get or how to wire it in properly. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to the forums.

You are using a separate dedicated thermostat just for the damper...... correct ?
You may not need a relay depending on the model of the thermostat.
You will need a 24vAC transformer.

Yes you are correct. I have the 24vac transformer i have the damper and i have a honeywell RTH2300B programmable thermostat. Hoping to make those items work together but if its not possible im open to recommendations.

The damper is normally open so it will need power to be closed
Do you want the damper closed until a certain heat is reached ?
