connecting a pre-existing C wire to zone panel

Hi All, trying to take on my first DIY project. I have 2 zone propane heating/cooling. I want to replace my current thermostat for zone 2 with the EcoBee4. There is an unconnected C-wire that runs from the control panel in the basement to thermostat on the 2nd floor. Can I just connect it to the thermostat and the C on Zone 2 on the panel? From reading online I know it would be that simple if I were trying to connect an unused C to a furnace, but wondering if it remains as simple when connecting to the control panel for zones.

The 1st attached photo shows the entire control panel. The 2nd photo is a close up of the left side. On the top left of that second photo you can see the unattached blue wire. I'd like to just take that and connect to the empty spot for C under "Zone2 Tstat"

Welcome to the forums.

Be advised that thermostat 1 still sets the system function..... heating or cooling.
Yes..... you can connect the spare blue wire to the C terminal on zone 2 T'stat.

Thanks, Pete.

Will I need to make any other changes that you can see? This poster had a similar question to mine, and the person answering said that yes he can connect to the C terminal, but then writes:

"However, since it looks like it's using the transformer from the air handler to power the zone controller. You'll likely have to also install a jumper from the C terminal on the 24VAC Transformer terminal block, to the C terminal on the System terminal block."

Does something like this apply to my situation as well?

Yours looks to have a separate transformer. You should be ok.

I connected the C wire as you said I could and everything works now! Thanks.

One question, from looking at my photos you could tell that Thermostat #1 would set the function for both. How can I wire these so that Therm #2 does not depend on Therm #1?

You can't. You would have to replace that zoning board with a new model that allowed dual stat function controlling.
