bench diagnosis of Honeywell zone valve
Electrical idiot here. How would I go about testing a 4 wire zone valve? I only use the 2 yellow wires in my system. Valve wasn't closing properly and it may be my imagination or another problem in my system but it seemed like maybe it wasn't opening completely either.
Its in a very awkward place to work on it so I pulled the ball and control uniit and closed it back up again with a spare cover I have so I can test it standing up instead of laying in the crawlspace. The ball and lever looked OK and appeared functional at a glance. Have no clue how to proceed with testing the electric

The two yellow wires are for the motor.
When 24vAC is applied.... the motor opens the valve.
An internal spring closes the valve with no power.
The two red wires are strictly for burner/circulator control.
Many you tube videos on the actual testing..... testing Honeywell zone valve videos
