Honeywell Thermostat Question

Hi,

Funny question for the summer time, but was wondering about the following.

For the "typical" Honeywell thermostat that has batteries inside, that controls a
forced hot water gas fired heating furnace (wish I had the unit S/N, but I don't);

a. Are the batteries only for the display ?
b. if the batteries go dead, will the thermostat still work the furnace normally (just no numerical display) ?

Caveats ?

Thanks,
Bob

If the thermostat goes blank when the batteries are removed it will not function when the batteries die.
