The FAQ almost confirmed my situation, but I don't want to miss anything. We just noticed an odor from around my son's toilet. I looked around the base and there is just a little bead of water around it, but not enough to run off anywhere. I was thinking the wax ring might need replacing. It's odd to me that it could need replacing when the house is only about 5 yrs old. :confused: Is the wax ring the only thing that could result in the odor? Is there a standard size, or do I have to get this apart to find out? I'm sure this is a very standard toilet, it doesn't seem to have much "power". The only name I see on it is "Mansfield". There is a steady, very slow, leak into the bowl, so I'll get a new tank kit too. I was assuming that is a seperate issue, but it was mentioned in the FAQ?

We had a toilet in the basement & decided to take it out about 5 yrs ago,The plumbers put a 4" test plug in the hole, so now we want to put one back in. I have to run a new water line as they soldered the supply line shut inside the wall no PLM. There is a cast iron pipe coming up maybe 1/4 in or a little more.I went to the HD and had a guy sells me what looks like a quick fix, It's a plastic flange that screws into the hole and has a rubber ring around it & he said that all I have to do is screw into the hole and make sure it is level, I asked about bolting it to the concrete & he said I didn't have to because it is going to self seal. Has anyone ever heard of this before ?? I saw in the forum about cracking out the cast "not sure" that sticks up & also making sure that hole is under 5' from the vent. Not sure what to do. my biggest thing is not to Leak. Any helpful suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated Dabear :confused:
