Toilet Tank to Bowl Leak

Mansfield toilet, 3-bolts attach tank to bowl. I replaced the flush valve, the gasket between the tank and the bowl, and the 3 bolts. There is now a drip onto the floor. I cant tell if it is from the tank / bowl gasket or the bolts but I'm guessing it is the gasket. Should I use putty on the gasket where it fits into the bowl?

The bolt kit has bolts, washers, nuts that go between the tank and the bowl, and wingnuts and washers for under the bowl. The old setup didn't use the extra nuts between the tank and the bowl; I have tried it both ways with the same results. Do I need the extra nuts?

Suggestions?

Sounds like one of the tank to bowl bolts might be loose.

I always lip thread sealant on the underside of rubber washers that go inside of the tank.

Thanks, Dunbar; I'll try some sealant. I am pretty certain the bolts and nuts are all tight. Do i need the extra nut that goes between the tank and the bowl?

sealant on underside of rubber washers

I am having the same problem. Water is coming from tank dripping through the left tank bolt even when tightened. Could I just put some of the teflon which comes in the tube that I used to seal the supply threads to the bolts that hold the tank and also put the teflon under the washers?

I have no idea, Brian. I think mine was leaking from the gasket between the tank and the bowl, but it has apparently seated itself because it no longer leaks.

Good luck!
