Unhappy My shower wont stop running!

The problem is that the hot water nob seams to be broken in the on postion....at full blast! The nob itself is spinning in and out fine but it has no effect on the waterflow from the shower head. It is an old shower and i dont want to break anything, seaing as im in a rental. I would like to just fix it but I cant seem to make it any better. To top it off i cant seam to find the shut off valve for the shower or the water heater. Any hel would be greatly appericated.

First, call your landlord. It's their responsibility.
Assuming that you have an electric water heater without a cold water supply shut-off valve, you will have to turn the water heater (usually a 30 amp double) breaker off at the electrical panel and the water off at the main shut-off valve.
Remove the handle of the hot water faucet and remove the valve (unscrew it counter-clockwise). You may need to get a set of plumber's valve sockets to reach the hex part of the valve in the wall from the shower side to unscrew it.
Take it to a store and get a replacement valve exactly like it.
Good luck!
Mike
