Removing toilet, or converting to sink

I just bought a house and there is a toilet in the laundry room. There is no sink nearby, and I just don't want a toilet there. Therefore, I plan on either (1) removing the toilet altogether and tiling over it, or (2) putting a laundry sink in its place. I'll hire a professional to do this, but I'd just like to get an idea of what is involved.

On option number (1), I assume you just remove the toilet, cap the drain pipe and then put flooring over it. Is that about right? Or do I need to remove the drain pipe and flange altogether?

On option number (2), I assume you would have to run a hot water line, and also convert the toilet drain to one that a sink uses. All the sink drains I've ever seen drain out of a horizontal pipe in the back, rather than vertically through the floor. Can a toilet drain be converted for use as a sink drain, or would a new drain line need to be run?

Thanks for any help

It can be eliminated (arm) and the plumber can install a tee in the stack just as long as there is nothing draining above it.
