Question Replace a toilet

I'm planning on replacing the toilet in my home. What should I look for in a toilet and how can I tell what "size" my toilet is? Or does that matter?

Thanks in advance.

Yes it does matter on the size. To measure what size your existing toilet is... measuer the distance from the wall to the stud bolts that hold it to the floor. It should be 10 inches or 12 inches, unless you have some strange exotic toilet.
As far as what you should look for in a new toilet.
Stick with a reputable NAME BRAND as replacement parts are more readily available.
Style, thats up to you. Choose what you like and something that look well with your existing fixtures.
Get the BEST you can possibly afford. This is not something you want to be changing often.
Your expensive toilets will be quieter and do a better job of flushing.
Good Luck and post back.

Thank you for the reply. What are some of the brands you would recommend? I'm not at all saavy in this area. Although I have seen several people change out a toilet and I know not to tighten the bolts too tight, unless I want to by another new toilet :-).

Thanks.

Crane and American Standard are two good brands. If you go to a big box store, ask about the features of each toilet you look at.There are a lot of newer brands and alot of offshoots from major manufacurers.I just don't believe in letting a LOW price get me involved in constant repairs later. Good luck and let us know how you went.
