toilet keeps running

My husband just replaced the innerds of our toilet. Now, it runs every minute or so.

Any suggestions?

The flapper isn't seating and sealing properly.
Clean the flapper seat with steel wool or SOS pad.
Shorten the chain of the new flapper to where it just allows the flapper to seal fully.
If the new flapper is installed with a rubber ring around the overflow pipe and the overflow pipe also has L-shaped brackets at the bottom, cut out the rubber ring and install the flapper by its rubber "ears" onto those L-shaped brackets (works better that way).
Good luck!

I assume that the water tube from the tank valve is clipped onto the top of the upright overflow tube so that all of the water is going into the overflow tube. And I assume that the water level in the tank is about a 1/2" below the top of the overflow tube when it shuts off.
Have you observed what the flapper is doing when you flush the toilet? Is it seating fully?

mike the flapper seems to be seating properly. the overflow tube is in the overflow fill tube. the water level is good. is there any other place that would leak that would make it still run occasionally. it only runs for about 5 seconds every 10 minutes. there is no water leaking to the outside of the tank.
