Unhappy Bathtub Faucet Won't Shut Off

I have a single handle shower faucet, that everytime I push it in to shut the water off, it keeps coming out. It has no brand names on it to help ID the manufacturer. Also, I live in a condo, so I think the only way to shut the water off to the shower, is to shut off the whole building.

Could there be a shut off valve somewhere that I'm missing? Is there a cartridge or something in there?

Thanks!

If the handle looks like a teardrop, it is a Moen Posi-temp cartridge if it is newer.

I would take a picture and post it so we can confirm if it is a Moen.

I will try to do that. Actually, the handle is round, not a tear drop.

Says I can't post attachments, so all I can say is that the handle is round heh. I'm sure that doesn't help. Thanks though.

May be a Price Pfister Single handle unit:

You will have to look hard for the water shut off....if there is one. Try to figure out where the main water line comes into you house and go from there. I have found shut offs under the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, by the water heater, on an outside wall, in the garage....the list will go on just have to look.

If you can pull the handle off of the shower knob and look to see what the cartridge looks like from there, it may help you determine which valve you have and need to have on hand when you do get ready to make repairs. If you have to turn water off to all the units, you will just have to notify everyone that you plan on doing this and try to make it as painless as possible. Be ready for others to ask if you can do their faucets while you are at it!!
