Mortar mix for shower pan

Well, I've put it off long enough, told the wife that when all our company left I'd rip out the (20 year) old cultured marble shower and do a nice tile one.

It's been a few years since I've done one and I don't recall what the proper ratio of cement and sand is to do the bed for the pan. Since it's a slightly odd shape I'm going with the 40mil thick PVC. So I need a good base first, then the PVC then the bed for the tile floor.

Thanks in advance guys.

It's a bit more expensive, but I like a rich mixture: one part type S mortar to two parts sand and mix it up rather dry. I've seen professionals use type N mortar and a lot more sand, so I'm sure everyone has their own mix.
