Talking What is a "thermostatic" shower?

I'm in the process of having a house built and came across a "thermostatic" shower. When I googled the term - a lot of european web site's popped up. But they didn't really explain the "thermostatic" part of it.

Any and all advice appreciated.
Thanks!

From what I have seen, they maintain the water temperature even if another fixture is turned on. Sounds like a great concept....EXCEPT...the price is NOT nice. Good luck.

Would not a pressure balance valve be shorthand for thermostatic?

Balancing spool senses pressure imbalance and controls the rapid change of pressures in mixing valve.

These valves are code to protect from scalding and protect the disabled (people suffering from epileptic seizures) from extreme temperature change.

It is still pretty confusing to me. I came across this term in regards to a shower panel with massage jets, etc. I'm not sure if it refers to multiple functions ranging from regulated water temp -to- water pressure flow under the same umbrella.

Thanks for your insight.

As Dunbar Plumber wrote, it controls the pressure and temperature at the same time. Ever been taking a shower and someone flushes a toilet? Stops that from happening. Became a safety issue a while back and most states made this type valve code.
