Old Eljer shower faucet

I am trying to repair a very old Eljer two handle shower faucet.(hot side) After removing handle it was obvious faucet stem need to be replaced. Looking at the damage to stem and washer indicated faucet seat needed to be replaced also. I have found new stem and seat and purchased seat wrench. The problem is I can't get to faucet seat. I can see it with a flashlight but some kind of tube or pipe is in the way. I have studied every diagram of shower faucets I can find and don't know what this is. I don't know if and how it can be removed so I can remove old faucet seat.
Any help would be appreciated.

It may be threaded. Try unscrewing it counter-clockwise with a strap wrench.
Good luck!

not accesible

Thanks for the response. the pipe I'm talking about is not accessible with a wrench, strap or otherwise. It is recessed 3-4" into wall. Any thoughts?
