Tub Drain Problem

I was taking out the strainer from the drain to change it and the pipe that it screws into broke. Do I need to take out the tub? I can't get under the tub any other way. I would like to keep the tub if possible.

Can you access the back wall of the tub?

If you can't get to it from behind the faucet wall, perhaps it's over a basement, crawlspace or ceiling?
Usually, one of those four is far easier than removing and re-installing a tub unit.
