Leaking tub faucet

Leaking tub faucet
I've had problem after problem in my upstairs bathroom of my newly purchased home. I have a shower/tub combo, three knobs. The hot water knob is causing the problem. When I turn it off, the water does not completely shut off. What is confusing me, is that I can turn it farther and it will come on a little more. There seems to be no stopping the knob from turning off. Up until a few days ago the knob would stop and the water would completely shut off. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It may just be a bad washer on the end of the valve stem, or a worn valve.
Turn off the water, remove the handle and the retaining cap, and remove the valve.
Take it to a store and replace the washer on the end, and the o-ring if it has one. If it looks badly worn, you may just want to get a new valve.
Good luck!

Sounds like a worn out washer. Shut off the water supply and remove the cap on the hot water handle. (should have a pop-off cap, screwdriver works well).Take out the screw you will see and pull the handle off. Remove the cover plate and you should see a nut. Remove it by turning counterclockwise.Place the handle back on and unscrew the stem. Look at the end and you should see a washer with a screw holding it on. Remove the screw and take the washer off and purchase a new one. Reinstall by reversing procedure.
