High pitched noise shower hot water

The hot water in my kids shower makes a very high pitched noise when they turn it on. In order for the noise to go away, they normally increase the hot water flow. It seems like the sound is coming from the fixture itself.

This has just started happening and is very annoying. Their shower is the only place the noise is apparent.

Any ideas what is causing this and how to fix?

Thanks

Typical sound of a bad washer in the hot water faucet. The washer gets worn or tore and acts like blowing on a reed. Turn off the water supply to the shower and remove the handle. (May have a pop-off cover on it. Remove the screw and handle. Take off the cover that goes to the wall. Remove the nut that is on the stem. Slip the handle back on the stem and turn the stem out. Look at the washer on the end of the stem. (probably shot). Either remove the washer or take the whole assembly with you and get a new washer. Buying a box or bag of washers is actually useless. You get one or two that fit and then lose the rest before you need another one. Reassemble in reverse order. Good luck.
