Shower arm pointing in wrong direction

Shower arm pointing in wrong direction
I've tried to install a new shower arm which should point down. However, regardless of how I start to screw the arm in, it always ends up pointing to the right. I've tightened it as far as I'm comfortable--and I think if I try to tighten it another quarter turn to have it point down, it may break. If I unscrew it three quarters of a turn (so it points down), it's too loose. Any ideas out there about what I can do to get the correct orientation (pointing down)? Thanks!!!

Are you tightning the arm by hand or using a wrench? Using pipe dope or teflon tape seal?
If tightning by hand, Remove the shower head and stick the handle of a pair of channelocks up into the arm and use them to tighten. Hold the arm close to the wall with one hand and tighten with the other. This will reduce strain on the arms threads.
If you are using teflon tape you should be putting 3 to 4 wraps (clockwise) on the threads. Try adding a couple wraps and you may not need that last 3/4 turn.
Good luck and post back with any questions by using the reply button at the bottom of this post.
