Unhappy Shower water woes

I have a Delta Monitor 1700 series single handle shower faucet (no tub) with an attached anti-scald hot/cold adjustment knob. The unit is about 3 years old and has been working fine until recently. Water pressure has dropped and the hot water will suddenly go cold and then back to hot. It is now to the point that a 5 minute hot shower is all you get before it gets cold again. If you play with the adjustment knob, it will eventually get back to hot. I have tested the bathroom sink hot water and water pressure throughout the house with everything else in working order.

Do I need to replace this unit or is there something that can be replaced from within?????

Thanks for the diagram

How hard is it to replace? I hope I don't need to rip the wall open.

Do you recommend anyplace in particular to purchase?

It sounds like you may have mineral deposits built up in the scald guard unit. Click the link below for step-by-step instructions on how to repair, including tools required. And no, you do not need to "rip the wall open".

Delta Web Site Link

If the link does not work, you will have to copy and paste it.

Post back if you need more help,

Thanks problem is fixed!!!

Turns out, there was a rock lodged right up against the inner shower-head oring which caused the water pressure problem. I was also able to clear the cartridge during this time. Thanks again......
