Temperature changes when using shower valves

I just had a new water heater installed. It's a 50 gallon electric. The first day we didn't seem to have enough hot water, so I adjusted both elements to about 118.

Now the problem is that we can't get a medium temperature in the shower. It's either too hot or too cold. When using the cold water to adust it is a hairline between the two extremes. This wasn't the case with the old water heater?

I've tested it in both of our showers with the same result.

What could be causing this? How can I fix it?

Thanks1

I take it these valves are the two or three handle valves the older styles?

Only way to solve this problem is to install a pressure balance devise it get installed just before the lines connect to the valve, of course you will need to open walls and redo the plumbing in them for this to work. Other option is to install this in a crawl space if you have crawl space.

That doesn't sound good! Yes it is 3 handle style.

We're looking to replace these, will that pressure device come in a different model?

It's a 1 piece shower unit, so I can't really get into the wall easily.

Most of the plumbing is underneath the house, which is a fairly tall basement. Can I install it there?

There is no three handle style valves that are pressure balanced.

Yes you can install this pressure balance devise in the basement.

Install it between the hot and cold water lines going to the shower, there easy to install, 2 inlets and 2 outlets, adapt to the type of pipe you have.

You will have to solder.

Ask at Lowes if they have the devise, you might have to go to a plumbing supply house to get this devise.
