My old shower tap is the 1225 which was some kind of aluminum metal not the plastic type. The taps are about 15 years old. I was able to get it off in the first shower. For the second shower, I took off the handle adaper and used pliers to remove the retaining clip. I tried to remove the old cartridge. Insert the white plastic tool, which is included in your kit, onto the cartridge stem so that it straddles the ears. Use pliers on the white plastic tool and loosen the cartridge by twisting back and forth. After removing the white plastic tool, grasp the cartridge stem and pull it straight out of the valve. I can get the white plastic tool to turn but the cartridge won't come out. No matter how hard I pull on it. Any suggestions? Yes, the white plastic tool is turning the cartridge. I sprayed also wd40 and then some penetrating oil. That didn't help too much. I found on the internet that this causes the rubber to swell. I read somewhere that to mix 2 parts vingar to one part warm water and spray on. Anyone have any proven ideas that work?

I'm in the process of replacing a toilet in my house ( built in 1968 in southern california) the house has a concrete slab floor with an approx. 5" od plastic pipe coming up out of the slab. The original (sheet metal?) flange is deteriorated. I looked at flanges at Lowes tonight but they had the sheet metal portion crimped around a plastic fitting. it appears the one in my floor is glued on so cutting it off and gluing a new one on doesn't look possible without breaking away allot of concrete around it. Anyone know a way to replace a flange on to that plastic pipe? it has a angle on the outside (larger at top outside, then tapers down) I bought a brass flange at Lowes tonight but Inside diameter is too small to fit over pipe. my Dad is a machinist so could modify it maybe but wondering if there isn't a better (& hopefully easier) way to do it. hopefully I discribed it well enough. any help would be appriciated, thank's in advance..
