Question raising toilet flange

I am installing ceramic tile on the floor of an upstairs bath, and I need to raise my toilet so that it sits on top of 1/4" concrete backer board and 1/4" tile (1/2" total). Is there any way to extend the floor flange to accomodate the increased floor thickness? Thanks.

What you need is a closet flange extender, actually 2 for 1/2". Remove the screws that hold down the present flange (should be 4 of them) and place the extenders on top of the existing flange, lining up the mounting holes and screw through all 3 flanges to anchor them.

Click on the link below to see what they look like. When you get to the site, scroll down to the 5th box on the right side and you will see them. Good luck.

Toliet Flange is 2" below cement floor--suprise

I decided to replace my brown toilet with a white one. Cement slab floor, 3 wax rings, the bottom one had the deluxe kind with the plastic funnel built in. the toilet flange it self is 2" in front and 1.5" in the back from the top of the tile floor, no wonder they used 3 wax rings. I would like to raise the toilet flange to the correct position. The pipe is 3". would it be OK to buy a new flange and set it on top of the old one, cement it in?

Any help you could offer would be appreciated.

firecracker, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Scroll up to Plumber2000's post and look at the flange extender and info. These are usually 1/4" thick but I have heard they also come in 1/2" thickness. They have to be sealed in between each extender and secured to the floor (probably with Tapcon cement screws) by lining up the 4 holes provided in the flange extenders and tying them all together with the tapcons. Good luck.
