Hi Maximus211,
Welcome to the DIY Forums.
You will need a puller to remove these 20 year old handles. Available at a plumbing supply store(not lowes manerds or HD).

As far as an access panel, it probably does not exist. You will need to make one, hopefully there is a closet on the backside of the shower. You can purchase a cover to hide the hole you will have to make. Get the cover BEFORE you cut so you will know the size. make the hole big enough to work in and make sure you know where the shut off valve for your home is. The main water supply will be involved here.

Since your faucet is 20 yrs old you may have trouble finding one the same size. 20 yrs ago most were 11 inches. Creativity may be involved here.

Good Luck and reply back if you have further questions

There are also alternative new shower faucet assemblies that can be installed from the shower side. They have large attractive chrome or brass-plated estucheon plates that cover the hole from the shower side.
Check into those at a plumbing supply house.
Good luck!

new project

I just removed my old shower doors and replaced with shower curtains..The problem is the glue that held the tracks for the doors on the tub are dried on and unable to scrape them off. Is there something to remove that dried on glue? thanx
