Question Installed new faucet/shower head, water comes out both same time how to stop?

I installed a new Delta faucet (model 1748-74/74CB) and shower head during my bathroom renovation. When I turn my handle to the on position water comes out of the spiget and the shower at the same time. It seems like the facuet isn't open enough so some of the water is shooting up to the shower head? I am not a plumber and I probably bite off more than I could chew but nonetheless I have this issue. I am hoping this is a common and easy fix as I have tile up??? The tub diverter is at the end of the spiget and you pull down on it to get the shower to work. This feature works like it should as when it is down only water comes out of the shower head. Please help, i need this fixed for in-laws that are coming for new year eve!

What type and size piping did you use to install this faucet?

1/2" CPVC can cause problems with Delta faucets due to the ID being too small, thus causing a restriction inline and allowing water to divert upwards.

I used 1/2" copper pipe. It is what the directions said to use and what seemed to sweat into the 4 way brass junction that was provided. Man I hope I don't have to upgrade pipe that would really make my year. Any other suggestions. I just removed the spiget from the wall so I would have an uninterupted passage of 1/2" out and it still came out of the shower head.

Is there any adjustments inside of the valve "package" that I can/should make? I hate plumbing so much...

Any chance that you installed the valve upside down?

There is always a chance, I will go look at this tomorrow morning.

My water pressure is from a well pump, I am not sure of its value, how can I check? Even if it is high how do you go about changing that type of thing? I don't think I would want it any lower than what it is.

I called Delta Faucet and they said to check the valve as well and also flush out the pipes as debris from working on it might cause this??? They also mentioned that the spiget must be 8"-18" from the valve. I am at the lower end (8") since that is what was easiest to do when I installed the unit.

Thanks eveyone for the suggestions, I am going to check the valve and flush the pipes and see where that takes me.
