hot water problem with kitchen faucet

the hot water for my kitchen faucet won't work unless I turn it on from underneath the sink...I recently turned the water heater temperature higher...could I have burned out a seal or something? I hope I can replace this instead of installing a new faucet....

The shut-off valves under the sink are supposed to stay about wide open.
What brand and type of faucet do you have? Single handle? Dual handle?
