sink overflow

Hello
I moved in to an 18 year old house and the bathrooms are good including the vanities and sinks. However, there is an odor coming from the hole that protects the sink from an over flow. Is there something I can put there to clear it?
Thank you
Pete

If you have room, try spraying a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water into the overflow holes. If you cannot get room, plug the sink and fill it up halfway with water and add the bleach and slowly add water to run it down the holes. Be careful not to slop bleach solution all over or on yourself. Good luck.

You also can use a non-caustic enzyme-based drain cleaner like DrainCare.
Just follow the directions on the jug.
Good luck!

I was looking for that name, 'draincare'. Thanx, Mike.
Btw, I poured some boiling water from the teapot and the odor is gone for now. I do want to get the product you mentionted instead of the dangerous ones.
