Diverter question

I have a three knob tub shower system that is manafactured by Central Brass (the outside of handle states CENTRAL). When I get the desired temperture coming out of the spicot into the tub, then divert it to shower the water temperture get much colder. There is no water coming thru spicot into the tub.If I back out the diverter about a10 degree turn the water heats up and the small stream coming into the tub thru the spicot is cold. I have talked to Central and receive no help as to why, but they were nice. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi 1003030, and welcome to DIY Forums,
- I hope we can help you , but with all due respect, if the people who made this can't help, what makes you think we can ?
Has it always done this, or did it work properly and this problem just started. The latter would indicate a failure in the unit, possibly a broken seal or something . There are many different shower diverters, so a diagram is really necessary. Look inside the handle for a part # and post back.

Do it Right - do it once.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I have worked in the major appliance industry and meet with many engineers and they dont seem to have all the clues to repair problems. I have soaked the handles in CLR to try and find the numbers. Can't find. From Central brass web sit I have determined from illustrations it is a Model 0850 series (Three-valve 8 inch Direct sweat.). The problem seems to have started about 4 to 6 months ago. About 9 months ago I installed a new electric water heater. It is a Whirlpool 80 gallon temp set at 140. I did use the accordian copper pipe to make the connection. The OD of the "ridged" copper pipe is 7/8". When I measure the OD of the accordian it is 2/3". Could this be the problem, there is no kink int the accordian portion.

When viewing the PDF files there is an extra washer in the diverter stem, Item #15, this may have become groved causing improper operation of the diverter. I would suggest an inexpensive overhaul kit and a tube of faucet lube.

I do not find item 15, could it be item 11? I have changed item 11 twice with no improvement.
