toilet tank leaking
My toilet would occasionally run to refill the tank as water leaked into the bowl. I replaced the flapper and things seemed better for a week or two, but now I'm right back where I started. The water level in the tank drops on its own. The part that the flapper valve seats on is plastic, and is clean and smooth. Any suggestions?

It could be the gasket between the tank and the bowl leaking. I don't know why it would have stopped though when you changed flappers. My overflow tube is attached to the flapper mechanism and after 3 new flappers, I found that it was a leak in the overflow tube and not the flapper at all. Just a thought. Good luck.

I have a one piece toilet and after replacing the gasket that I thought may be letting water go by, I once again removed the tube assembly and looked at it very carefully. The ONLY place it could leak was where the tube joined the brass. I took some aquarium silicone and ran a bead around that joint, let it cure and re-installed it. No more problem. Look for cracks in the tube also. Good luck.

Tank to bowl gasket...
Im having the same problem. two new flappers and still leaks. This toilet is so old that it has a porcelain overfill tube running down the back side of the tank. I figured if the tank/bowl gasket was bad water would be all over the floor, but Im losing water steadily somewhere else. I thought the seat for the flapper has become worn and out of round..is THAT possible? (I installed a fluid master to replace the valve)

I'm frustrated. This thing is leaking intermittently. Sometimes it's fine. FYI...I think fluidmaseter makes a flapper that comes with it's own seat if you think that's the problem.

Leaking steadily
It wouldnt surprise me if you have a flapper issue, but mine is leaking steadily somewhere. And since it doesnt get outside the tank, It must be an internal crack similar to what majakdragon had. I think Ill fill the tank with some colored water and see if its getting into the bowl just before I buy whole new toilet. You might do the same thing.
